Miss Lou

Bio

Miss Lou (also known as Lou Peixin) is Singapore's Glamour Vintage Songbird - a classic vintage vocalist and songwriter who blends old-school vocal stylings with modern sensibilities. Described as a reborn jazz soul, her songs are snapshots of 21st Century life told in the language of doo-wop, swing, and soul. She uses music as a vehicle to talk about things that matter, such as body confidence, the impact of social media on self-esteem, and independence, and strives to inspire others using written, spoken, and sung words.

The winner of the Noise Award from the National Arts Council's Noise Music Mentorship 2016, Miss Lou took her career to the next level by recording her debut EP, Glamour Vintage Songbird, with Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic) at Revolver Studios in Thousand Oaks, California.

Her debut EP, Glamour Vintage Songbird, was released in September of 2017. It has since charted on iTunes in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam - reaching #4 on the Top 200 Pop chart in Singapore, #11 on the Top 200 Pop chart in Indonesia, and #2 on the Vietnam Top 200 All Genres chart. More Than Just That Bass, the lead single, reached #9 on Spotify's Viral 50 chart for all genres. Miss Lou's music has also made it onto Apple Music's The A-List: Singapore Music, and Spotify's Singapore's Top Acts playlist.

As part of AirAsia and Spotify's Dreams Come True campaign, Miss Lou was part of the Top 3 artists out of 20 chosen from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Representing Singapore, she got to play her songs with and for 16-time Grammy Award-winning producer, David Foster, in an exclusive one-on-one mentoring session at Marina Bay Sands.

An experienced chanteuse, she has performed at countless galas, events, and shows, and sung for heads of state, including Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and key leaders from a myriad of industries.

Over the past few years, she has carved out a commanding niche in Singapore and the region with her talent and professional expertise, cutting through the noise and competitive online landscape with her unique blend of vintage glamour, cross-generational appeal, and enterprising spirit as an independent artist and entrepreneur.

In 2019, she co-founded Loudanclear, which is an all-rounded creative collective and music company that manages her multi-faceted career; organises and promotes in-person and virtual music events, concerts, and festivals; strategises and handles social media marketing for international award-winning artists; and that does music, video, and online content production for international distribution. The team is based in Singapore and now works out of their new HQ and studio, which can support live streaming with high quality audio and video, and is where she and the team spend much time writing, recording, production, mixing, and mastering music.

Miss Lou actively and passionately speaks on and mentors people in finding their niche and developing their full potential - creating and giving inspirational Career Concert-Talks, conducting workshops & sharing sessions for personal improvement in blending talent, aspirations and career choices, performance coaching, and internships to work with her. She has mentored Business students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 2019 as part of their Industry Mentors Network Program, spoken on music entrepreneurship to budding entrepreneurs at Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Innopoly Virtual 2020, was a panel speaker alongside CEOs of entertainment juggernauts for Intellectual Property Office of Singapore's (IPOS) IP Week 2020: GRIT Series Webinar on IP in the Arts and Entertainment Sectors.

Using her life and voice, Miss Lou seeks to bridge and connect different worlds for the better - geographically, culturally, generationally, and across industries.

What people say

“[Her] debut EP Glamour Vintage Songbird [is] a five-tracker full of introspective soul and delightful bounce”

— Indran P, JUICE Singapore

“'More Than Just That Bass' is the perfect introduction track to the world of Miss Lou for anyone who isn't familiar with the singer. The title of the EP is indication enough of what Lou's music entails, but the debut single encompasses everything about the classic vintage pop artist. She has her sights set on spreading positivity and it shows in 'More Than Just That Bass', a track that promotes body positivity right from the get-go with the opening line”

— Surej Singh, Bandwagon Asia

“And though, at 23, Miss Lou may seem a little young to be riffing music made in the heyday of jazz-pop –she makes it work to a T on the EP, with a voice that recalls Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington or Peggy Lee.”

— Christopher Toh, TODAY

“Every year, the NAC's Noise Music Mentorship programme for budding musicians uncovers gems like jazz-pop singer Miss Lou (real name Lou Peixin), [who] could well win over regional fans in the future with [her] distinctive [voice] and songwriting chops.”

— Eddino Abdul Hadi, The Straits Times
